Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday:-
PLUS is proactive and committed to helping users enjoy a
safer, smoother and more comfortable journey along its
highways, especially during peak periods.
During a media conference held in Kuala Lumpur today, PLUS
Expressways Berhad’s (PLUS) Chief Operating Officer, Nik
Airina Nik Jaffar said, “More than 4,000 PLUS personnel
including 400 uniformed personnel will be stationed along
the highway, as well as at toll plazas and rest areas as
part of PLUS’ efforts to ensure safer, smoother and more
comfortable travel this Hari Raya.”
“We anticipate an estimated 1.3 million vehicles daily on
the highway during the holidays. As such, various measures
are being and will be taken to ensure a safer, smoother and
more comfortable journey along the highway,” she said.
Travel Time Advisory
Nik Airina advises the public to follow the PLUS Travel Time
Advisory (TTA). The TTA is prepared by PLUS to assist the
public in planning their journey and smoothen traffic flow
along the highway.
The TTA concept, which was first introduced during last
year’s Merdeka holidays with the co-operation of the
Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and the Police, is based
on staggered travel to various destinations to reduce
traffic congestion during peak periods.
Nik Airina also said that the public’s co-operation in
following the travel schedule during last year’s Hari Raya
holidays and this year’s Chinese New Year helped to ease
traffic movement on the highway. Therefore, she hopes that
the public will continue to give their co-operation in
following the travel schedule during this year’s ‘balik
kampung’ rush.
Smoother Travel
To ensure smoother traffic flow at toll plazas, almost 1,000
toll counters will be opened this holiday season and PLUS
will deploy additional staff, including headquarters staff
to the toll plazas.
“31 towing vehicles will be provided at strategic locations
along the highway to facilitate more efficient traffic
management. In addition, all highway construction and
maintenance works (except for emergency works) will be
temporarily stopped between 26 September and 6 October to
ensure the public enjoys uninterrupted journey on the
highway,” Nik Airina said.
In line with the restrictions announced by the Government,
designated heavy vehicles will be barred from entering the
highway on 27-28 September and 4-5 October to prevent
traffic congestion and enhance safety on the highway.
In addition, PLUS also anticipates high traffic volume for
the return journey to the Klang Valley during the following
weekend after the Hari Raya holidays. As such, contra flow
will be activated between Sungkai and Slim River (if
required) on 4 and 5 October to facilitate traffic flow.
User Safety
“To enhance the safety on the highway during the long
holidays, PLUS will provide 123 PLUSRonda teams to conduct
more patrolling on the highway,” Nik Airina said.
Emergency response teams comprising the Fire Department, the
Police, St John Ambulance, the Red Crescent and JPA3 will be
put on standby at 12 strategic locations namely Gurun, Juru,
Taiping, Kuala Kangsar, Slim River, Tapah, Rawang, Nilai,
Senawang, Tangkak, Yong Peng and Sedenak from 24 September
to 8 October.
User Comfort
Measures will also be taken to ensure the public enjoys a
more comfortable journey during the long holidays.
More than 300 RELA and and PLUS personnel will be stationed
at 53 rest and service areas (RSA) and lay-bys to
co-ordinate traffic management at these areas.
“In addition, PLUS will also provide additional parking at
the Bukit Gantang lay-by (both bounds), Gunung Semanggol RSA
(both bounds), Ulu Bernam RSA, Behrang lay-by (both bounds),
Ladang Bikam lay-by (Northbound), Pagoh RSA (Southbound),
Simpang Renggam lay-by (Northbound) and Yong Peng lay-by
(Southbound) for user convenience,” Nik Airina added.
To facilitate matters relating to Touch ‘n Go cards and
SmartTAG, the operating hours at the PLUS customer service
centres and the reload lanes will be extended until 11:00 pm
every day.
Traffic Monitoring
PLUS will also conduct aerial and ground traffic
surveillance to monitor traffic movements during the
holidays.
Latest Traffic Information
The public are advised to call the toll free PLUSLine at
1800 88 0000 for the latest traffic updates on the highway
24-hours a day.
“We will also provide traffic information through short
messaging system (SMS) during high traffic periods on 27,
28, 29 and 30 September as well as on 4 and 5 October to
enable the public to obtain the latest highway traffic
updates,” Nik Airina said.
To receive SMS on the latest traffic updates on the NSE, the
public can:-
