Kuala
Lumpur, Thursday:- The Minister of Works, YB Dato’ Ir Mohd
Zin Mohamed today launched the PLUS ’Mentor-Mentee’ Program, as
part of the Government’s efforts to develop more competent Class
F/Grade G1 Bumiputera contractors to take part in the country’s
construction sector.
Speaking at
the PLUS Expressways Open House and the launch of the PLUS
Expressways new corporate logo at Sheraton Hotel Subang today,
Dato’ Ir Mohd Zin Mohamed said, ”Through this Mentor-Mentee
program, Class F/Grade G1 Bumiputera contractors registered with
PLUS Expressways will be able to participate in construction
projects together with the main contractors. This will help the
Class F and Grade G1 Bumiputera contractors to gain knowledge
and experience on technical aspects and project management and
enhance their expertise in this era of globalization.”
The
introduction of the PLUS Expressways’ Mentor-Mentee Program is
in line with the Government’s comprehensive policy to ensure
Class F/Grade G1 Bumiputera contractors have equal opportunities
to participate in the construction industry under the 9th
Malaysia Plan.
The PLUS
Mentor-Mentee program’s work scope includes routine maintenance
for civil, mechanical and electrical works as well as upgrading
works and highway repairs.
Through this
program, the mentee or the Class F/Grade G1 Bumiputera
contractors will undertake sub-contract works awarded by the
mentor or PLUS Expressways’ main contractors. The mentor will be
responsible for the performance and achievements of respective
mentees by providing the necessary guidance.
According to
the Chairman of PLUS Expressways, Tan Sri Mohd Sheriff Mohd
Kassim, ”The Mentor-Mentee program is a stepping stone for Class
F/Grade G1 Bumiputera contractors to further develop and expand
their business. This move would also help the Government’s
efforts to upgrade Class F/Grade G1 Bumiputera contractors to be
more competitive in today’s construction sector.”
