Kuala
Lumpur, Thursday:- Works Minister, Dato’ Seri S Samy Vellu
today launched PLUS Expressways Berhad’s (PLUS) Chinese New Year
“Respect Your Limits” Safety Campaign at the Sungai Buloh
Overhead Bridge Restaurant (Northbound).
The “Respect Your Limits” Safety Campaign is aimed at educating
drivers to avoid accidents through respecting one’s physical
limits and that of the vehicle’s.
According to Dato’ Seri S Samy Vellu, “Based on studies which
have been conducted, most accidents are not caused by road
design or structure but by drivers who do not understand or
appreciate their own, and their vehicle’s, limitations. As such,
they push themselves and their vehicles beyond the limit, which
often results in tragedy.”
The “Respect Your Limits” campaign will be followed by a series
of safety seminars which will be held in the northern, southern
and central regions in the Peninsular Malaysia throughout this
year. The campaign is aimed at educating the public especially
heavy vehicle drivers and operators, including buses, on safe
driving aspects. The campaign is also one of PLUS’ initiatives
to reduce the number of accidents involving heavy vehicles in
the country. The first “Respect Your Limits” seminar was held in
Alor Star on 28 January.
Also present during the launch were representatives from the
Works Ministry, Malaysian Highway Authorities, the Police,
highway Concessionaires and the UEM Group.
