PLUS SHIFTS INTO
HIGH GEAR WITH INTEGRATED SERVICES
Effective 1st September 2003, the operations of the North-South
Expressway, the New Klang Valley Expressway, Federal Highway
Route 2 (under PLUS), the North-South Expressway Central Link
(ELITE), and the Second Crossing (LINKEDUA) have been integrated
under PLUS Expressways Berhad (PEB) as the Operating Company.
PEB, a subsidiary of the UEM Group, offers a wide range of
operation services to highway concession companies both within
and outside the UEM Group. These services include toll management,
traffic safety management, concession monitoring, maintenance
management, expansion planning and implementation, as well
as marketing services.
As an outsourcing partner, PEB's services allow Expressway
Concessionaires to focus on the ownership responsibilities
of their assets - strategic management, revenue collection,
and all other obligations and liabilities. PEB's concessionaire
relationships will also be governed by Service Level Agreements
(SLAs) that form the basis of service delivery.
As an Operating Company, PEB will initially service UEM Group
partners, which will provide a strategic platform for further
development both domestically and in developing regional markets
such as India and China. Currently operating approximately
78% of the total length of toll expressways in Malaysia, PEB
is poised to become a globally competitive player in the Expressway
industry.
Through cost optimisation and continuing process and productivity
enhancements, PEB is continually improving overall efficiency
of the Group's expressway companies. In addition, the economies
of scale inherent in the consolidation will drive consistency
of service levels for motorists across all three expressways.
Internally, this integrated model will provide exposure and
career growth opportunities for PEB staff, allowing them to
advance along with the planned expansion of the Company.
Full implementation is expected by January 2004.
