Drinking and Driving
Alcohol impairs judgement. Drinking under the influence of alcohol
is a serious offence and can result in accidents. If you must
drink, don't drive.
Emergency Lane
Do not stop in the Emergency Lane provided along the expressway
unless absolutely necessary. If you are experiencing a problem
while driving that does not make it necessary to stop immediately,
please drive on to the nearest toll plaza or rest & service
area where it is safe to park your vehicle before attending
to the problem. If you have to stop in the Emergency Lane,
do turn on the hazard lights, get out of your vehicle and
try to stay behind the guardrail.
Emergency Telephones
In case of an emergency or vehicle breakdown, walk to the
nearest Emergency Telephone and call our traffic control centre
for assistance. Emergency Telephones are placed every 2 km
intervals along the expressway.
Handphones
If you must talk on your handphone, be sure to use a hands-free
kit. Many accidents occur when drivers fail to keep both hands
on the wheels in an emergency situation.
Motorcycle Shelter
Bikers travelling on the expressway are advised not to stop
in the emergency lane under bridges during rainstorms. Look
for the motorcycle shelters provided by Linkedua instead and
take cover behind the safety of a guardrail.
Rest when tired and sleepy
One major cause of accidents on expressways is driver fatigue.
When travelling on the expressway, make full use of the facilities
provided in the form of rest & service areas and toll
plazas. Park your vehicle and have quick nap or have some
coffee. Never drive while you are sleepy.
PLUSRonda
This is a free-of-charge 24-hour service to assist motorists
travelling on the Second Link. PlusRonda also attends to accidents
and deals with general traffic management on the Expressway.
Speed Limit
Speeding is one major cause of accidents. Observe the speed
limit at all times.
Keep left
Keep left unless you are overtaking.
Keep enough distance from the vehicle ahead
Failure to brake in time is a major cause of accidents. Always
keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the one in front,
especially during rain and in wet road conditions.
